There are no proximity or in-person requirements between an APRN and the collaborating physician in Connecticut. For the first three years after initial licensure, an APRN must practice under a written collaborative agreement with a Connecticut-licensed physician, and collaboration is defined as a mutually agreed relationship without any mandate for on-site or in-person presence1.
The written collaborative agreement must address consultation and referral, coverage in the APRN’s absence, methods to review patient outcomes and medical therapeutics, disclosure of the relationship to the patient, and the permitted level of Schedule II–III prescribing. No physical location or meeting frequency is specified in these requirements1.
After at least three years (2,000 hours) of collaborative practice, APRNs may elect to practice independently by submitting written notice to the Commissioner of Public Health23.
