Georgia does not require an NP and collaborating physician to be in the same location or in regular physical proximity. A collaborating physician may work offsite, but must be available for immediate consultation by electronic or in-person means12.
However, there is an in-person oversight requirement: the delegating physician must conduct and document annual onsite observation and quarterly review of medical records to monitor quality of care3. The nurse protocol agreement must also specify when direct, on-site evaluation or consultation by the physician is required for specific patient conditions and circumstances5.
Georgia does impose a proximity rule in certain cases: a physician party to a nurse protocol agreement must be licensed in Georgia and, if their principal place of practice is outside Georgia, it must be within 50 miles of the Georgia practice location where the agreement is used4.
