Are there any proximity or in-person requirements between an NP and collaborating physician in Ohio?

Ohio does not impose a fixed physical proximity or routine in-person meeting requirement between an NP and the collaborating physician. Instead, the collaborating physician must be continuously available to communicate with the APRN—either in person or via electronic communications—rather than co-located1.

Your standard care arrangement must include contact details ensuring both parties can be reached at any time, plus processes for consultation, referral, coverage, and quality assurance2. It also must provide for timely direct, personal evaluation of the patient by the collaborating physician or designee when indicated, which may involve in-person evaluation of the patient but does not create a standing proximity requirement between the NP and physician23.
