Can an NP prescribe Ativan in Texas?

Yes — Texas NPs can prescribe Ativan (lorazepam), a Schedule IV benzodiazepine, when the prescribing authority is delegated through a prescriptive authority agreement and controlled-substance requirements are met.12

For Schedule III-V controlled substances, Texas rules include prescription and refill limits, including a 90-day supply limit and physician consultation for refills beyond the initial 90-day supply.1 NPs prescribing controlled substances must also have the required DEA registration.
