Yes — Pennsylvania CRNPs may prescribe Klonopin (clonazepam), a Schedule IV controlled substance, if they have current prescriptive authority approval, prescribe within their specialty, and the authority is included in a physician prescriptive authority collaborative agreement.13
For Schedule III or IV controlled substances, the prescription may be for up to a 90-day supply as identified in the collaborative agreement.2 Because Klonopin is a benzodiazepine, Pennsylvania also requires a PDMP query each time it is prescribed.4 CRNPs also need DEA registration for controlled-substance prescribing, and prescriptive authority approval requires at least 45 hours of advanced pharmacology coursework. Pennsylvania CRNPs may not prescribe Schedule I controlled substances or delegate prescriptive authority.
