Can an NP prescribe Klonopin in Texas?

Yes — Texas NPs can prescribe Klonopin when prescribing is delegated under a prescriptive authority agreement2 and controlled-substance requirements are met.1 Klonopin is clonazepam, a Schedule IV benzodiazepine, for this prescribing analysis.

For Schedule III-V controlled substances, Texas NP prescribing is subject to controlled-substance limits, including 90-day supply and refill limits and physician consultation for refills beyond the initial 90-day supply.1 The NP must also meet controlled-substance prescribing requirements, including DEA registration when prescribing controlled substances.
