Can an NP prescribe Lithium in Texas?

Yes — Texas NPs can prescribe lithium when medication prescribing is delegated through a prescriptive authority agreement.1

For lithium prescribing in Texas, the NP still needs delegated prescribing authority within the NP’s scope and agreement. Texas law allows physicians to delegate prescribing or ordering of drugs and devices to APRNs, and the prescriptive authority agreement defines that delegated authority and oversight.21
