Yes — Florida nurse practitioners may prescribe phentermine when it is within their education, training, experience, and protocol or qualifying autonomous primary-care authority and controlled-substance requirements are met.1 Phentermine is a Schedule IV controlled substance in Florida.2

For this medication, the NP must meet Florida’s controlled-substance prescribing requirements, including qualifying graduate education for controlled-substance prescribing, appropriate APRN authority, and DEA registration. Florida generally also requires PDMP review before prescribing a controlled substance such as phentermine, unless a statutory exception applies.3

The APRN-specific 7-day Schedule II limit does not apply to Schedule IV phentermine.
