Yes — Pennsylvania CRNPs may prescribe phentermine, a Schedule IV controlled substance, when they have current prescriptive authority approval, prescribe within their specialty under a physician prescriptive authority collaborative agreement, and the agreement identifies Schedule IV authority.123

For Schedule III or IV controlled substances, Pennsylvania allows CRNP prescriptions for up to a 90-day supply as identified in the collaborative agreement.2 A CRNP authorized to prescribe controlled substances must also have DEA registration and comply with controlled-substance prescribing standards.4

Prescriptive authority approval also requires at least 45 hours of advanced pharmacology coursework, and Pennsylvania prescribers must query the PA PDMP when required.

CRNPs may not prescribe Schedule I controlled substances and may not delegate prescriptive authority.
