Can an NP prescribe Phentermine in Texas?

Yes — Texas NPs can prescribe phentermine, a Schedule IV controlled substance, when prescribing authority is delegated through a prescriptive authority agreement1 and Texas Schedule III–V controlled-substance limits are met.2

Those limits include 90-day supply/refill limits and physician consultation for refills beyond the initial 90-day supply.2 The NP must also have DEA registration when prescribing controlled substances.2
