Limited — Florida NPs may prescribe Vyvanse when authorized, but a non-psychiatric APRN is generally limited to a 7-day supply; Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) is Schedule II in Florida.13
APRNs must prescribe within their education, training, experience, and protocol or qualifying autonomous primary-care authority, have qualifying graduate education for controlled-substance prescribing, and maintain DEA registration.
The 7-day cap does not apply when a psychiatric nurse prescribes a psychiatric medication.1 For patients younger than 18, psychiatric mental health controlled substances may be prescribed only by psychiatric nurses.2 Autonomous APRN registration does not create general autonomous psychiatric-specialty authority.
Florida prescribers also generally must review the PDMP before prescribing controlled substances unless a statutory exception applies.4
