Can an NP prescribe Vyvanse in Texas?

In most cases, no — Texas NPs generally cannot prescribe Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine), a Schedule II stimulant, unless the prescription fits a narrow Schedule II exception for hospital facility-based practice or hospice/terminal-care plan-of-care contexts.2

Texas APRN controlled-substance authority generally covers Schedule III-V drugs, not broad Schedule II stimulant prescribing.1 Schedule II prescribing may be delegated only in the specified hospital facility-based setting or for hospice or terminally ill patients under a qualifying plan of care.2

Texas NP prescribing authority also requires a prescriptive authority agreement, and DEA registration is required when prescribing controlled substances.
