How many nurse practitioners can a physician supervise in Connecticut?

A physician is not limited in how many nurse practitioners they can supervise in Connecticut. Connecticut law does not set a maximum number of APRNs with whom a physician may collaborate, and supervision is framed as collaboration during an APRN’s first three years of practice1.

For the first three years after initial APRN licensure, practice must occur under a written collaborative agreement with a Connecticut-licensed physician, and the physician must be educated, trained, or experienced in the APRN’s area of practice1. After completing three years (at least 2,000 hours) of collaborative practice, an APRN may practice independently upon providing written notice to the Department of Public Health2.
