How many nurse practitioners can a physician supervise in Ohio?

In Ohio, a physician may supervise nurse practitioners through standard care arrangements without a numeric cap on the total number involved. However, at any one time the physician may collaborate with no more than five APRNs in the prescribing component of their practices1.

Ohio requires an APRN to practice under a standard care arrangement with each collaborating physician, and the collaborating physician must be continuously available to communicate in person or electronically12. The five-APRNs limit applies only to prescribing; outside of prescribing, Ohio law does not set a cap on concurrent collaborations1.

For administrative compliance, APRNs must submit the name and business address of each collaborating physician to the Board within 30 days of first engaging, and notify the Board within 30 days of any additions or deletions13.
