How often must an NP and collaborating physician meet in California?

In California, the requirement for how often an NP and collaborating physician must meet is not specified in law. Physician supervision does not require the physician’s physical presence and may be satisfied through collaboration on and approval of the NP’s Standardized Procedures, with the physician available by telephone during patient examinations1.

Standardized Procedures must define the scope of supervision and include a method for periodic review of the procedures and of NP competence, but they do not mandate a specific meeting schedule21.
