Connecticut does not require a specific meeting frequency between an APRN (NP) and the collaborating physician. Instead, for the first three years after initial licensure, APRNs must practice under a written collaborative agreement with a Connecticut-licensed physician1.
The collaborative agreement must set the level of consultation and referral, provide coverage for patient care in the APRN’s absence, and outline methods to review patient outcomes (including medical therapeutics, corrective measures, labs, and diagnostics the APRN may prescribe), rather than mandating scheduled meetings1. Collaboration is defined as a mutually agreed-upon relationship with a physician whose education, training, or relevant experience aligns with the APRN’s practice1.
After completing at least 2,000 hours over three years of collaborative practice, APRNs may elect to practice independently by submitting written notice to the Commissioner of Public Health and maintaining documentation of the collaborative requirement for at least three years2.
