How often must an NP and collaborating physician meet in North Carolina?

In North Carolina, an NP and collaborating physician must meet monthly for the first six months of their collaborative practice, then hold quality improvement meetings at least every six months thereafter12.

Both types of meetings must be documented—identifying clinical issues discussed and actions taken, signed and dated by attendees, and retained for five years for Board review12. Beyond scheduled meetings, the NP and supervising physician must be continuously available to each other for consultation by direct communication or telecommunication3, and they must maintain an ongoing, written quality improvement review plan for frequently encountered clinical problems4.
