How often must an NP and collaborating physician meet in Ohio?

In Ohio, there is no specified frequency for meetings between a nurse practitioner (NP) and a collaborating physician. Collaboration is governed through a standard care arrangement (SCA) rather than a mandated meeting schedule1.

The SCA must delineate quality assurance processes—including chart review, prescribing pattern review, consultation procedures, and evaluation of patient care23. Separately, Ohio rules require periodic random chart review at least annually by the collaborating physician, with an opportunity for the NP and physician to discuss feedback following the review4.

Beyond these quality assurance interactions, the collaborating physician must be continuously available to communicate in person or electronically, ensuring ready access for consultation5.
