In Ohio, terminating a collaborative standard care arrangement requires specific steps. A collaborating physician must give the APRN written or electronic notice of termination, and once the APRN receives that notice, the APRN must notify the Board as soon as practicable by submitting a copy of the physician’s termination notice12.
Ohio also requires APRNs to report additions or deletions of collaborating physicians to the Board within 30 days, and to retain copies of previously effective standard care arrangements for at least three years34. These requirements help ensure continuity of care and proper documentation during and after termination.
If the collaboration ends because of the collaborating physician’s death, the APRN must notify the Board as soon as practicable. In this circumstance, the APRN may continue practicing for no more than 120 days before establishing a new collaboration5.
