An Ohio NP needs a DEA registration to prescribe controlled substances. In Ohio, an APRN must have a DEA number to issue prescriptions for controlled substances1. APRNs may prescribe Schedules III–V and, in limited circumstances, Schedule II, as authorized by statute2.
Additionally, the APRN’s standard care arrangement must address the prescribing component, including provisions for the use of Schedule II controlled substances and OARRS review3. NPs should ensure their controlled-substance prescribing aligns with these statutory and regulatory requirements.
