My background is in osteopathic medicine, a field that conceptualizes health as the optimal relationship between the structure and function of the body. By default, It emphasizes a holistic view of health. I take a practical and outcomes-based approach to psychiatric treatment. I appreciate the social-economic factors that can lead to mental disturbances and often recommend some form of psychotherapy along with psychotropic treatment, which is my practice focus. I have worked in various settings, spanning a range of illness levels. I have supervised nurse practitioners since 2017 and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Dr. Denise Josey, MD, MPH, MS, FASM is a fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and has been Assistant Professor of Preventive Medicine at Nova Southeastern University.  Dr. Josey earned her Doctorate of Medicine degree from Howard University College of Medicine;  a Masters of Public Health degree with a concentration in Quantitative Methods (Biostatistics and Epidemiology) from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ School of Public Health- now Rutgers University; and Master of Science degree in Human Nutrition from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.  She completed her residency in Preventive Medicine/Public Health Medicine at the Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County and an Addiction Medicine fellowship at Saint Joseph Mercy hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She currently holds board certifications in both Addiction Medicine and Preventive Medicine/Public Health Medicine.     Dr. Josey has dedicated her career to social justice, mental health, wound care, chronic pain, and mitigating the opioid crisis in suburban and urban areas. Dr. Josey can currently assist with asynchronous consults, supervision and directorship, but no synchronous consults or direct patient visits at this time.

I have been practicing psychiatry for over 35 years, in various roles. I have been a partner in private group practice, an executive in managed care, performed utilization review, worked in a prison, worked with various community mental health clinics in California, Iowa and Maryland (either with direct services or telehealth), and with ACT teams in Skid Row, Los Angeles and Brooklyn, NY. Most recently, I have been applying my experience and knowledge to collaborative care settings. This includes working with a company that does virtual collaborative care with primary care physicians, and with another where I provide psychiatric consultations and treatment on site in a primary care office that treats those with debilitating and serious medical illnesses. I look forward to continuing my work in supporting mid-level providers with developing their skills and practice, or simply being able to continue what they already do well.

I am a board certified psychiatrist and an esteemed Diplomate of the ABPN. I am fully trained in both Adult and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I received my psychiatry training at University of Maryland and attended Johns Hopkins Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship program. I offer a thoughtful, comprehensive assessment to discuss and weigh out the role that medications could play to support your process of change. My goal is to provide the expert psychiatric care that will allow you to perform at your personal and professional best. I have special expertise in treating individuals who have medical illnesses and are in need of medication support as a component of their care. I work with individuals, couples, and families to address their relationship or career issues. My style is professional, empathic and approachable. Psychoeducation is at the core of my practice. I collaborate regularly with your therapist/PCP to discuss and plan your best, most effective treatment course. Not everyone needs medications. I make every attempt to streamline or reduce medications when possible, but help develop effective, safe regimens in cases when medications are truly necessary. It is my goal to optimize your overall health.

I am a psychiatrist licensed to practice in California, New York, and Georgia. I am certified in Adult Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and maintain a valid DEA certification. For the last several years I have been doing supervisory, managerial, and executive-level work for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. I have worked as a clinician with affective and psychotic disorders; substance use disorders; and personality disorders.

I am a Board Certified Adult Psychiatrist with more the 20 years of clinical expertise in a variety of outpatient psychiatric settings. I have been practicing independently by providing psychiatric medication management, supervising clinical staff and collaborating with CRNPs.

Dr. Adelle Schaefer is a double board-certified psychiatrist specializing in general and addiction psychiatry. With expertise in teaching and psychopharmacology, Dr. Schaefer is dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care to help patients achieve lasting well-being. She has presented material at several national Psychiatry conferences, including the American Psychiatric Association's annual meeting. Additionally, she has published several articles in the field of Psychiatry, and serves as a teacher and mentor to medical students and Psychiatry residents at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in Manhattan, New York.
